Background:
At the beginning there is a novel: The book “Battle Royale” published in 1999 by the Japanese author Koushun Takami is set in a totalitarian state. Every year, a school class is taken to a deserted island. Here the pupils have to fight each other until only one survivor remains. The title of the book comes from wrestling: in a battle royal, ten or twenty wrestlers jump into the ring and anyone can attack anyone. This is also how the computer game “Fortnite: Battle Royale”, which is currently the most popular, works. It is based on the film adaptation of Takami’s novel. A hundred figures land on an island without luggage. Here everyone has to collect weapons, ammunition, protective clothing and raw materials and fight the others.

Am Anfang steht ein Roman: Das 1999 vom japanischen Autor Koushun Takami veröffentlichte Buch «Battle Royale» spielt in einem totalitären Staat. Jedes Jahr wird eine Schulklasse auf eine einsame Insel verschleppt. Hier müssen sich die SchülerInnen gegenseitig bekämpfen, bis nur noch ein Überlebender übrig bleibt. Der Titel des Buchs stammt aus dem Wrestling: Bei einer «Battle Royale» springen zehn oder zwanzig Wrestler in den Ring, und jeder kann jeden angreifen. So funktioniert auch das zurzeit meist gespielte Computerspiel «Fortnite: Battle Royale», das auf der Verfilmung von Takamis Roman basiert. Hundert Figuren landen ohne Gepäck auf einer Insel. Hier muss jeder Waffen, Munition, Schutzkleidung und Rohstoffe zusammensuchen und die anderen bekämpfen.
